2017 looks to be an exciting year for Samsung as they have rolled out many changes that are bringing out a mixed response from most consumers. They’ve gone ahead and branded their smart TVs under three categories. The more powerful QLED models, Premium Ultra HD models, and the standard HD LCD TVs they are most known for. Today I’ll explain some key differences in the televisions and better help explain the 2017 Samsung TV lineup.
Samsung is saying that the improvement they made to their smart TVs warranted a new name. this is where QLED came from and to be honest, they weren’t kidding. These TVs have a better processor (Q engine) for handling motion and upscaling content better than the UHD models which is very nice. They also come loaded with the ‘Q | 4K Color Drive Elite’ for superior color gamut coverage and ‘Q | 4K Elite Black’ for a dramatically darker level of blacks in the screen. These features together produce an impressive picture.
Though this isn’t without some drawbacks. The picture gets incredibly bright which is nice for some, but man have reported it as almost blinding. This coupled with the higher price tag have many people wondering is the QLED TVs are worth it. Below is a table to help give some perspective into the QLED options and features.

Premium Ultra HD TVs
Here we have a more relaxed version of the powerful Samsung smart TV. You’re getting access to a large array of options that will fit most needs or wants. You’re likely able to overspend and a get a future proof television or you can opt towards a more budget oriented TV that will still offer a decent picture. Samsung has mentioned that these TVs will also still have the Tizen platform and are likely to recieve updates over time to maintain an enjoyable experience.
Some differences though, that make the UHD TVs is their list of features. You’re likely to have 4K Color Drive Extremefor accurate colors. This helps maintain a realistic picture that the more base models in the Samsung TV lineup struggle to achieve. These television also have access to 4K HDR Extreme which helps boost the contrast ratio a bit and offer more depth in the picture. These are great options and help the Samsung lineup look competitive to other big name brands like Sony or LG. Below is another quick overview of the UHD models.

Basic HD Samsung TVs
The last leg of the 2017 Samsung TV lineup are the more basic HD LCD TVs. These offer the bare essentials are likely do not have any smart features. Even with that likely being true, they still ply a role in the TV world. These TVs are often much smaller in the 20-30 inch range which makes they great for smaller places.
Such as, a RV, kitchen, guest room, and maybe even a bathroom. The HD LCD Samsung TVs are also likely to come with a smaller cost. So you won’t find yourself breaking the bank with these models. You’re not getting the more refined features though which makes sense. Even still, you can expect a decent level of brightness from these televisions and a decent picture for casual viewing. Below is a small overview of these models as well.
