Best Soundbars to Buy Under $300

1. Best Soundbar Under $300: Yamaha YAS-207

Check On Amazon

The Yamaha YAS-207 is the strongest soundbar we’ve reviewed so far for under $300. If you’re looking for the best soundbar for TV to listen to your favorite jams or other stereo content, this 2.1 setup will deliver great performance for that price point. This decently built soundbar has a well-balanced and reasonably neutral sound signature suitable for most audio content, while its wireless subwoofer can pack a punch particularly enjoyable by fans of EDM or action movies.

There are plenty of inputs, including two HDMI ports so that you can turn this soundbar into a hub for your devices, as well as a 3.5 mm analog jack that makes it very easy to share music when you’re having a party at home. You can even use Bluetooth to cast your favorite tunes if you prefer a wireless connection.

On the downside, its plain design has a mesh-like fabric coating which gives a cheap look to this soundbar and can be prone to ripping or attracting dust. It does not come with an HDMI cord, which is a little disappointing, too.

With this soundbar, you won’t be able to have instantly boost music experience either since it doesn’t have the best surround performance like other soundbars in this price range, and it lacks height channels. But overall it’s still a decent choice.

Pros:

  • Neutral sound signature.
  • Decent build quality.
  • Good overall stereo performance.

Cons:

  • Lacks sub-bass.
  • Barebones app.

2. Best Budget Soundbar Under $200: TCL Alto 7+

Check On Amazon

The TCL Alto 7 + is the best budget soundbar we’ve reviewed for under $200. Thanks to its fairly neutral sound profile and surprisingly good build quality, this 2.1-channel setup delivers pretty good value for the price. Both the bar and the wireless subwoofer feel pretty well built overall, especially compared to similarly priced models we’ve reviewed, and even comes with all the different audio cables you might need.

This soundbar has a fairly versatile, pretty well-balanced sound profile. It accurately reproduces voices and dialog which can help you to more clearly hear your favorite shows.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t generate any thump and rumble during action-packed sequences, which is a bit disappointing, but it still packs a good punch. It can get really loud too, which is perfect if you have a party or play in a big room. But, at full speed, it compresses quite a ton in the bass range so you may not want to drive it too hard.

Unfortunately, this soundbar only supports Dolby Digital surround content, which can be a problem if you have DTS-only Blu-rays. Also, it doesn’t have a full HDMI-in, so you can’t use it as a communication channel for your different home theatre.

The Yamaha YAS-108 / ATS-1080 has a full HDMI interface and supports both Dolby Digital and DTS, but it’s more costly and it sounds very simple. Generally, TCL is one of the strongest soundbar qualities we have tested so far.

Pros:

  • A good overall sound profile.
  • Good for dialogue content.
  • Well-built design.

Cons:

  • No DTS support.
  • Lacks bass.

3. Customizable Alternative: Samsung HW-R450

Check On Amazon

If you want to adjust your sound profile to the content you are listening to, you may want to go to the more configurable Samsung HW-R450. Although by default it is not as balanced or neutral-sounding as the Yamaha YAS-207, Samsung has a 7-band graphic EQ and also an improvement level for the subwoofer, allowing you to develop the perfect feel signature to your preferences.

Also, Samsung is better designed and sleeker; its metal grill looks and feels better than the mesh-like fabric cover of the Yamaha.

If you’re looking for a good sound signature from the moment you take it out of the box, the Yamaha is a better choice. However, if you want to fine-tune your listening experience, choose the Samsung.

Pros:

  • Decent stereo sound.
  • Well-built design.
  • Good overall performance at high volume.

Cons:

  • No 4k @ 60Hz passthrough.
  • No height channels and Atmos support.
  • Poor surround performance.

4. Best Small Soundbar Under $300: Bose Solo 5

Check On Amazon

The Bose Solo 5 is the strongest little soundbar we’ve reviewed under $300 so far. This simple soundbar is sufficiently compact for travel and small enough to fit between the legs of most TV stands without obstructing your screen view.

Although this soundbar is often made from solid plastic, it has a great setup. Its decently stable frequency response replicates exact vocals and instruments, making it great for more dialog-heavy audio such as tv shows and podcasts.

You can also use Bluetooth to connect your mobile device to this soundbar if you like to listen to music streaming apps with your phone, making it easy to share your music with others in the room. This soundbar, though, is lacking in thump and rumble.

There is no adjustment for even more bass, either. It also has no HDMI ports that may be less customizable than other budget soundbars that we’ve been evaluating so far. Still, if you’re space-conscious and on a budget, this is a solid and inexpensive little space soundbar.

Pros:

  • Well-built design.
  • Decent sounding on stereo content, especially for its size

Cons:

  • Lack of DTS support; poor connectivity options.
  • Poor bass performance.
  • Small soundstage.

5. Alternative With Hdmi: Sony HT-S200F

Check On Amazon

If you’re going to enhance from your TV speakers and prefer using a soundbar with an HDMI port, then get the Sony HT-S200F. especially in comparison to the Bose Solo 5, it might lack a bit of depth, but has some neat features to improve dialog supply like Voice Mode.

Instead of having a wireless one like some options on this list, this soundbar also has an integrated subwoofer but its performance is not necessarily better than the Bose. Also, its sound signature is noticeably darker, as it cuts off in the treble range rather quickly.

For a much more balanced sound, you could always check out the Sony HT-S100F, but it will certainly not be as compact as other Sony, and that there are cheaper prospects for its size. The S200F can also play Dolby Digital files upside down through its HDMI ARC port, which is great if you’re watching lots of Blu-rays or content on some streaming platforms.

Get the Bose if you’re fine using optical or line-in to plug your soundbar into your TV, but if you need HDMI for Dolby Digital support, get the Sony.

Pros:

  • Great for dialogue content.
  • Performs well at max volume.

Cons:

  • Doesn’t get very loud.
  • Doesn’t support DTS.
  • Always-on surround sound feature.

6. Best Soundbar Under $300 For Bass: TCL Alto 5+

Check On Amazon

For bass, the TCL Alto 5 + is the best soundbar under $300. Its bass packs an extra punch thanks to its dedicated subwoofer, which can please EDM fans or those who enjoy action flicks.

This is a well-designed 2.1 channel soundbar setup that brings the bass and, while its sound profile may be a bit muddy, its mid and treble ranges are still sufficiently balanced to keep the vocals from getting too lost in your mix.

It is also a fairly small and short soundbar so you shouldn’t have a problem placing it between the legs of most 55 “TVs. It shouldn’t obscure the screen as well unless your TV is flush to the table. This soundbar also includes a lot of cables and accessories in the box, which is a nice touch.

On the downside, some might also find too much of bass-heavy sound. It isn’t even as noisy as other soundbars on this list, anymore, but you may notice a bit of disturbance in the bass scope at higher volumes. Still, this Bluetooth speaker is a fine option if you’re shopping on a budget but still want something that can deliver bass.

Pros:

  • Good build quality.
  • Small and fits between the legs of TV stands.

Cons:

  • No DTS support.
  • Doesn’t get very loud.
  • A bass-heavy sound profile.
