So you’ve got a new Vizio soundbar, but no speaker connections on your TV? This is actually pretty common. Your TV might only have digital (optical) audio output, and that’s what your Vizio soundbar also uses for connecting to the TV. If so, read on!
This tutorial is for newer “smart” or “active” * speakers like the ones linked below. So let’s get started!
Things you’ll need:
- Vizio soundbar with speaker wire connections
Hook up your speakers to the soundbar
You’ll want to use high-quality, thick speaker wire for this job. We used 14 gauge wire. The thicker the wire, the less signal loss you will have over longer distances. With cheaper or thinner wires, you can have a loss of around 25% of your sound signal after only 50 feet! So don’t skimp out on speaker wire if possible.
Assemble your hardware according to the instructions included in the box with your Vizio Sound Bar. Once complete, plug in the power cord and turn on both devices by pressing any button or using their respective remotes. Press the input button on your Vizio Sound Bar remote until you see “HDMI” light up on the display. Now, turn on your TV and change the input setting to HDMI.
You should now be able to hear sound from your TV through your Vizio soundbar! Step 2 – Hook up an optical audio cable
Use a digital optical audio cable for this step. Insert one end of the digital audio cable into the corresponding port in your television set or AV receiver if available, then insert the other end of the digital audio cable into ARC (Audio Return Channel) compatible port on your VIZIO soundbar.
Turn on both devices by pressing any button or using their respective remotes. Press the input button on the VIZIO soundbar remote until you see “ARC” light up on the display. If applicable, enable ARC on your television or AV receiver. You should now be able to hear sound from your TV through both devices.
If these steps didn’t work for you, it might just be that your Vizio soundbar is too new for this model of TV!
About Vizio Soundbars
Vizio soundbar is a type of audio device that amplifies sound from TVs, DVDs, Blu-ray players, and other electronic devices. It’s also known as a speaker bar or TV sound base. Vizio manufactures these products in California for use in the United States.
The Vizio Soundbar has been designed to be plugged into an AC outlet and connected to your television with optical or analog cables. Once connected, the user can control both the TV and the sound system with one remote.
The first generation of smart speakers was released on September 9th, 2015, and will be compatible with VIZIO SmartCast televisions and VIZIO SmartCast apps on Google Play Store for Android TV OS or iOS 8.
You’ll need to understand how these two connect together first, then you can decide if it’s for you or not. At the end of this article, I’ll provide general guidelines to help you avoid making mistakes (and wasting money). If your TV only has an optical output (or digital/coaxial), your Vizio soundbar does too… But it also requires an analog input.
The HDMI ARC port is intended for allowing a direct connection between the Vizio Sound Bar and the HDTV so that both can be controlled by just one remote control. The single cable helps to attach high-definition multimedia interface “HDMI” ports of both the devices directly to each other using an HDMI cable without needing any additional connectors.
• The satellite speakers are placed at the back of the soundbar so they can be connected to the audio input jacks of the TV.
• The Vizio Sound Bar is provided with an additional analog cable that will help in connecting it to any audio jack available on the television.
• Plug both the devices into separate power outlets before switching them on to avoid any power surge-related issues during its operation.
The Vizio smart soundbar is compatible with many applications and also provides a simple and intuitive user interface that makes it easy for anyone to configure and operate this speaker system once you connect it with your HDTV set. It offers a very simple and useful app that can be downloaded from the iTunes Store or Google Play Store using the smartphone available in the market.
The soundbar that comes with a wireless subwoofer can be connected to the television via Bluetooth or any other reliable means of a wireless connection from your side, while there is no requirement for wires when you attach it with the latest Vizio smart TV.
In case your television model is not compatible with this speaker system, then you need to buy an additional accessory called RCA cable which will allow you to connect both these devices easily without giving up much space on your desk or cabinet.
