LG B6 Description and Review

If you’re looking for one of the best TVs on the market, you’ve found it. The LG B6 is an impressive TV with even more impressive features. An infinite contrast ratio takes the cake as it’s best detail, but do not over look it’s ability to handle motion or it’s great smart features. HDR content is supported and wide color gamut makes for stunning detail for any kind of viewing experience.
With that all said, let’s dive right in and see what makes this a Top Rated TV.

    • Pro: Near perfect handle of motion. Lowest response time I’ve seen.
    • Con: Slight judder from some 24p playback content.

    • Con: Though the input lag is very good, much of the settings need to be adjusted to have it perform the best.

Preferred Usage

The LG B6 is slick TV with a hefty load of options at your disposal. I’d recommend this TV to any movie enthusiast out there, but that’s not the extent of this TV’s reach. It can handle casual gaming with ease while TV shows and Movies will be a cake walk. Though as a PC Monitor is would perform well, there are better options out there.

Available Sizes

Not much to choose from for sizes here, but these sizes are often the most requested. It is likely that they’ll fit your living room or are what you’re interested in.

Picture Value - Best For: Movies

There’s not much to say here in terms of what it cannot do. On the other hand there are tons to say about what the LG B6 can do. Everything under the sun aside from 3D content is handled very well. Some might even say done the best. The pure blacks and ultra-bright whites display stunning images and scenes thanks to light coming from the pixels directly. This allows the TV to not have to worry about local dimming options. The viewing angle is surprisingly good as well.

Contrast Ratio

  • Contrast Ratio: ∞(Infinite):1
    • Local dimming: Unchanged

HOLY MOLY! This is great and though common among OLED TVs, it is impressive nonetheless. Essentially the OLED technology inside the LG B6 is very different. The pixels themselves are where the light is basically coming from on an individual basis. Where as with basic LCD TVs. That is not the case. This allows for a “truly” black picture and a infinite contrast ratio.

Color Gamut

DCI P3 Color Space

  • DCI P3 xy: ~95%
  • DCI P3 uv: ~100%

Rec 2020 Color Space

  • Rec 2020 xy:~70%
  • Rec 2020 uv: ~70%
  • Wide Color Gamut:Yes

Above you will see not only the colors range percentages the LG B6, but also notice is does have a wide color gamut. This tells yo two things. One: this TV rocks. Two: This TV rocks in stunning and accurate detail. Also note, that if you’re not seeing HDR content to check your incoming signal. The TV automatically enables the wide color gamut when a HDR signal is detected

Local Dimming

local-dimming-trt

  • Local Dimming: No
  • Backlight Type: Not Available

This is a little redundant of a feature to have on the LG B6 if you think about the contrast ratio and how it came to be. There is no need for a back-lighting system or local dimming features when the TV natrually can control its own deep colors. Though it is not available, it is actually a good thing it is not available.

Viewing Angle

  • Viewing Angle: ~75°

My goodness. The LG B6 absolutely kills it here in this metric. A series of larger TVs that actually work for a larger living room? You have to be kidding? Nope. This TV can do that. Think of how many people you will be viewing this TV with to help decide with a purchase.

Input Upscaling

pixel comparisons

  • 480p: Content looks splendid.
  • 720p: Normal and cable TV are upscaled very well.
  • 1080p: Very sharp and easy to make out small details.
  • 4K: Perfection. No issues and runs very smooth.

Listed above you can see how well the LG B6 upscales content. It is all done very well and should mean great things for you no matter what kind of device you might be using. Really great stuff here.

Motion Handling - Best For: Movies

If you were expecting this TV to let you down here you will be sadly let down. The LG B6 has an amazing handle on motion with very little room to get better. From a wicked low response to a great ability to produce the “Soap Opera Effect” it does it all very well.

Motion Blur

  • Response Time: ~0.1 ms

Little to no blur can be seen when viewing any kind of fast moving content. Though this is becoming a more common trait among TVs these days, it is still impressive. This will not only allow you to see a great deal of color, but also a great amount a detail in the scenes you watch.

24p Playback

  • 24p: Yes
  • 24p via 60p: No
  • 24p via 60i: No

This is kind of a sad metric compared to the rest of them all. Basic devices with 24p playback will work well. On the other hand streaming devices, satellite TV, and cable TV will struggle to produce a judder free image. I would recommend adjusting your settings to your liking to best assist these issues. I tried myself, but was looking too hard to notice any real changes

Motion Interpolation

motion-interpolation-trt

  • 30 fps: Yes

motion-interpolation60-trt

  • 60 fps: Yes
  • Soap Opera Effect: Yes

I’d be wary of using these set of features too much on the LG B6 as there may be small issues that become visible if the images and scenes are altered too much. Aside from that the motion interpolation is possible and works very well. You’ll need to adjust “Trumotion” to “User” for the initial changes to take effect. Then adjust the settings to your liking.

Inputs - Best For: Movies

A little bit of a struggle here in very minor areas. The casual gamer that wants to play video games occasionally will be pleased with the input lag and input features available. On the other hand if you’re interested in competitive video games you may be in the wrong place as the input lag is noticeable and the best gaming features are not present.

Input Lag

  • Best Input Lag: ~27 ms
  • Average Input Lag: ~46 ms
  • Worst Input Lag: ~70 ms

You’re getting a huge spectrum of input lags, but if gaming is what you’re here for I’d recommend sticking to the lowest. The ~27 ms input lag offered from the 1080p resolution will be your best bet. You’ll need to make sure your settings are done correctly to make the best of the picture. Adjust the settings to ensure ‘Game Mode’ is on as well as the ‘Game’ picture mode is on. Good luck and good gaming!

Supported Resolutions

  • 1080p @ 60Hz: Yes
  • 1080p @ 120Hz: No
  • 4k @ 30Hz: Yes
  • 4k @ 60Hz: No

I found the best results from these inputs when adjusting the settings.
Main Menu > General > ‘HDMI ULTRA DEEP COLOR
This above setting I feel will offer the best to you.

All Inputs

  • HDMI : 4
  • USB : 3
  • Digital Optical Audio Out : 1
  • Component In : 1 (incl. adapter, shared)
  • Composite In : 1 (incl. adapter, shared)
  • Tuner (Cable/Ant) : 1
  • Ethernet : 1

Not the best range of inputs you can find from a TV, but you should be allowed to use any amount of devices you want to use at any one time.

Input Features

  • HDR10: Yes
  • Dolby Vision: Yes
  • 5.1 Passthrough ARC Dolby Digital: Yes
  • 5.1 Passthrough ARC DTS: Yes
  • 5.1 Passthrough Optical Dolby Digital: Yes
  • 5.1 Passthrough Optical DTS: Yes
  • ARC: Yes

Real awesome stuff here from the LG B6. Real high-end features from a high-end TV.

Smart Features - Best For: TV Shows

The WebOS 3.0 is making another appearance in the smart TV world. This makes for a great addition to the LG B6 with tons of popular apps and smart features. USB content can be read and looked at while there are tons of built-in features to browse. The many downfalls are the slight frame drops when accessing apps and that there are apps built into the WebOS platform.

Operating System

OLED55B6P

  • Operating System: WebOs 3.0

Really great stuff here and one of the best smart platforms a TV can have come with it in the box. Most popular apps are ready to go once right out of the box while the TV itself can read USB files with ease. Great stuff here from the LG B6.

Built-In Ads

  • Ads: Yes
  • Third Party Ads: Yes
  • Opt-Out: No

SAD! I wish I had something better to say about this metric, but sadly this is the worst it can be. Though not too intrusive the ads are ever present. I feel this ruins a truly immersive experience and does no justice to the greatness of this TV.
